Trail Runs & Athletic Conditioning is Zen Pet Care’s premium fitness service for active, athletic, and high-energy dogs who need a greater physical and mental challenge than a traditional walk. Personally guided by Chris, these outings combine structured running, outdoor exploration, conditioning, enrichment, and carefully managed pack socialization.

Each dog is placed in a thoughtfully selected group based on temperament, energy level, running ability, physical condition, pace, and social compatibility. The goal is to build a balanced group that can move safely and confidently together—not simply to place fast dogs in the same pack.

Every outing begins with secure pickup, calm introductions, a potty break, and a controlled warm-up. The warm-up gives each dog time to settle into the group, loosen their muscles, and prepare for more demanding activity. Running begins gradually before progressing into a sustainable pace based on the terrain, weather, and ability of the dogs.

Routes may include Boise-area trails, foothill paths, parks, or the Greenbelt. Natural surfaces, hills, elevation changes, and varied terrain can help challenge a dog’s balance, coordination, endurance, and body awareness. When weather or trail conditions are unsuitable, the workout may be adjusted to a safer route or structured running format.

These sessions focus on healthy cardiovascular exercise, stamina, muscular endurance, coordination, confidence, and appropriate pack behavior. Dogs also receive purposeful sniffing and environmental enrichment, helping satisfy both their physical drive and their need to explore.

Trail manners and group control are part of every outing. We practice focus, pacing, respectful passing, and appropriate responses around people, unfamiliar dogs, bicycles, wildlife, and other distractions. The dogs are closely supervised throughout the experience, and the pace is adjusted whenever the group’s safety or comfort requires it.

Water, rest, and recovery breaks are provided according to temperature, terrain, distance, and the needs of each dog. Participants are monitored for changes in gait, breathing, energy, body language, paw condition, overheating, stress, or fatigue. No dog is pushed beyond their safe working ability, and the route or intensity may be modified when conditions change.

After the run, dogs receive a cool-down period, water, and time to settle before being safely transported home. Secure pickup and drop-off are included, making this a complete door-to-door fitness experience rather than a simple timed run.

Every session is GPS tracked. Pet parents receive a detailed report featuring the route, distance, pace when available, photos, potty updates, and highlights from their dog’s performance and experience.

Trail Runs & Athletic Conditioning are available in 30- and 60-minute running options. Total door-to-door care time also includes transportation, group organization, warm-up, recovery, and safe returns home.

This service is best suited for healthy dogs who are comfortable traveling, participating in a structured group, and maintaining an active running pace. Dogs who are new to running, older, returning after inactivity, or managing a medical or orthopedic concern may need veterinary clearance or a gradual conditioning plan before participating.

This is the ultimate Zen adventure—the biggest workout, the longest route, and the most complete canine fitness experience we offer.

Our 120-Minute Trail Run / Run is an elite endurance adventure created for healthy, highly active dogs who were built to move. It combines two full hours of structured running, varied terrain, environmental enrichment, and disciplined pack movement into one unforgettable day outside. This is not a casual jog around the neighborhood. It is a professionally guided canine expedition designed to challenge the body, engage the mind, and satisfy a dog’s natural drive to run and explore.

Depending on the weather, temperature, trail conditions, and needs of the group, the adventure may take place across Boise’s foothill trails, natural open spaces, the Greenbelt, or a combination of safe running routes. Trail days may include climbs, rolling hills, elevation changes, dirt paths, and technical terrain. Greenbelt and pathway runs allow the group to establish rhythm, maintain a steady pace, and cover longer distances on smoother surfaces.

Every canine athlete is carefully selected and matched according to temperament, fitness level, running ability, pace, confidence, and social compatibility. Each adventure begins with secure pickup, calm pack introductions, a potty break, and a controlled warm-up. The pace builds gradually, giving the dogs time to loosen their muscles, settle mentally, and prepare for the challenge ahead.

Over the course of the two-hour outing, dogs experience a carefully balanced combination of running, climbing, purposeful movement, sniffing, exploration, hydration, and active recovery. The exact pace and distance will vary according to the terrain, weather, and abilities of the group. This is not two hours of nonstop sprinting. It is a professionally managed endurance session built around sustained exercise, recovery, and safe progression.

The physical benefits may include improved cardiovascular endurance, muscular stamina, balance, coordination, body awareness, and healthy energy release. Just as importantly, the changing scenery, natural scents, terrain, and group structure provide intense mental enrichment. Dogs are given a productive outlet for both their athletic drive and their instinct to explore.

Pack leadership and real-world manners remain a priority throughout the adventure. Dogs practice focus, pacing, respectful passing, trail etiquette, and appropriate behavior around people, unfamiliar dogs, bicycles, wildlife, and unexpected distractions. Every participant is continuously monitored, and the group’s pace or route may be adjusted immediately when safety or comfort requires it.

Hydration, rest, and recovery breaks are built into the experience. Each dog is closely observed for changes in breathing, gait, energy, paw condition, body language, overheating, stress, or fatigue. Weather, air quality, trail conditions, and temperature may affect the location, intensity, or format of the workout. No mileage is guaranteed, and no dog is pushed beyond their safe working ability.

The adventure ends with a structured cool-down, water, and time to decompress before the dogs are safely transported home. Pickup and drop-off are included. Please allow approximately 4.5 hours of total door-to-door care for transportation, pack organization, warm-up, the complete two-hour adventure, recovery, and safe returns.

Every session is GPS tracked. Pet parents receive a detailed report featuring the route, distance, pace when available, photos, potty updates, and highlights from their dog’s performance.

Personally guided by Chris, this premium service is reserved for healthy, conditioned dogs who are comfortable traveling, working in a structured pack, and sustaining an advanced level of activity. New participants may require an assessment, gradual conditioning, or veterinary clearance before joining.

For the dogs who still have energy after everyone else is tired—this is their adventure.

Our 30-Minute Trail Run / Run combines trail running and structured athletic conditioning into one premium fitness experience. Depending on the weather, trail conditions, and the needs of the group, dogs may run through the Boise foothills, explore natural trails, or maintain a steady pace along the Greenbelt, local pathways, and other safe running routes. The location may change, but the goal remains the same: purposeful exercise, mental engagement, and one seriously satisfied dog.

Each dog is carefully matched with running partners according to temperament, pace, energy level, physical ability, and social compatibility. Every adventure begins with secure pickup, calm introductions, a potty break, and a controlled warm-up. This gives the dogs time to settle into the pack, loosen their muscles, and prepare for the workout ahead.

Once the group is ready, the dogs receive 30 full minutes of structured running. The pace is tailored to the terrain, temperature, and fitness level of the group. Trail routes provide hills, elevation changes, natural surfaces, and technical terrain that challenge coordination, balance, strength, and endurance. Greenbelt and pathway runs provide a smoother surface for maintaining rhythm, pace, and sustained cardiovascular exercise.

Throughout the session, we work on more than mileage. Dogs practice focus, pacing, trail etiquette, leash manners, confident movement, and appropriate behavior around people, unfamiliar dogs, bicycles, wildlife, and other distractions. They also receive opportunities for purposeful sniffing and environmental exploration, giving their brains a workout along with their bodies.

Safety is built into every stage of the experience. Water, rest, and recovery breaks are provided based on the weather, route, and individual dog. Each athlete is closely monitored for changes in breathing, gait, energy, paw condition, body language, overheating, stress, or fatigue. Routes and intensity may be adjusted in real time to keep the group safe and performing comfortably.

After the workout, dogs receive a proper cool-down, water, and time to settle before being safely transported home. Pickup and drop-off are included, so please allow approximately 2–2.5 hours of total door-to-door care for transportation, group organization, warm-up, the full run, recovery, and safe returns.

Every run is GPS tracked. Pet parents receive a detailed report with the route, distance, pace when available, photos, potty updates, and highlights from their dog’s performance.

Zen’s Signature Trail Run combines athletic conditioning, outdoor adventure, pack socialization, enrichment, and professional leadership into one unforgettable experience. Personally guided by Chris, this premium service is designed for healthy, active dogs who need more than an ordinary neighborhood walk.

It is challenging. It is purposeful. And judging by the happy faces afterward, it may become the best part of your dog’s week.

The award-winning Zen difference

Zen Pet Care Services has earned recognition locally, nationally, and globally for changing what professional dog exercise can look like:

• 2025 Global Recognition Award
• 2026 Pet Innovation Award — Dog Walking Service of the Year
• 2025 Quality Business Award — Best Dog Walker
• 2025 Boise Favorites recognition
• Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite, 2022–2025

Awards are exciting—but our real reputation has been built one adventure at a time through consistent arrivals, dependable service, detailed communication, exceptional photography, and a level of care that never treats your dog like just another name on the schedule.

A private athletic club for Boise dogs

Every dog is carefully matched with compatible running partners according to temperament, pace, physical ability, play style, confidence, and social comfort. Group sizes remain intentionally limited so every athlete receives appropriate supervision and individual attention.

Your dog’s experience begins with secure pickup directly from home. Once the group arrives, we start with calm introductions, a potty break, purposeful sniffing, and a controlled warm-up. This gives the dogs time to settle into the pack, loosen their muscles, and prepare mentally and physically for the workout ahead.

Then the real adventure begins.

Thirty full minutes of structured running

Dogs receive approximately 30 minutes of focused running within the complete 60-minute conditioning session. The pace and route are chosen according to the group, weather, terrain, trail conditions, and each dog’s current fitness level.

Depending on the day, the pack may:

• Climb and descend natural trails through the Boise Foothills
• Maintain a steady endurance pace along the Greenbelt
• Explore rolling terrain that develops balance and coordination
• Practice controlled pacing on local pathways
• Navigate changing surfaces that challenge strength and body awareness

Foothill routes provide natural elevation changes, uneven terrain, hills, and technical movement that develop coordination, balance, strength, and endurance. Greenbelt runs provide a smoother surface for rhythm, sustained cardiovascular exercise, and consistent pacing.

The destination may change. The purpose never does: meaningful exercise, mental engagement, confident movement, and one seriously satisfied dog.

More than mileage

Physical fitness is only one part of the Zen experience. Throughout the outing, dogs practice valuable real-world skills, including:

• Pack manners and appropriate social behavior
• Confident movement around unfamiliar dogs and people
• Leash etiquette and controlled transitions
• Trail awareness and appropriate yielding
• Composure around bicycles, wildlife, distractions, and changing environments
• Calm loading, unloading, introductions, and group movement

Dogs are also given opportunities for purposeful sniffing and environmental exploration. Their bodies receive a workout, their minds stay engaged, and their social skills grow through professionally managed pack experiences.

Professional supervision from beginning to end

Every athlete is closely observed for changes in breathing, gait, energy, paw condition, body language, hydration, temperature, stress, and fatigue. Water and recovery breaks are provided according to the route, weather, and individual dog.

Routes, pace, distance, and intensity may be adjusted in real time. The goal is never to push a dog simply for impressive mileage. The goal is to create a safe, productive workout that leaves each dog fulfilled, confident, and excited to return.

After the run, dogs receive a structured cool-down, fresh water, and time to settle before being safely transported home.

The experience continues after the run

Every outing includes the kind of updates Zen has become known for: standout action photos, GPS-tracked activity information, potty notes, and detailed captions that bring the adventure to life.

You won’t receive one blurry photograph and a generic “good run.” You’ll see the terrain, the pack, the personalities, and the moments that made the outing special. When available, your report may include the route, distance, pace, highlights, and notes from your dog’s performance.

More care than the clock suggests

Although this is a 60-minute fitness session, secure pickup, transportation, group organization, warm-up, the complete workout, recovery, and safe returns generally create approximately two to two-and-a-half hours of total door-to-door care.

Your dog receives far more than a run. They receive transportation, professional group matching, structured conditioning, outdoor enrichment, recovery time, photography, GPS accountability, and careful supervision throughout the experience.

Limited by design

These runs are intentionally kept exclusive. Space is limited by group compatibility, fitness level, transportation capacity, weather, and the number of dogs Chris can personally guide to Zen’s standard.

This is not mass-market dog walking. It is a carefully managed athletic experience reserved for dogs who are comfortable traveling and participating in a structured running group.

For the right dog, it is fitness, freedom, enrichment, friendship, and adventure—all rolled into one extraordinary outing.

Give your dog more than a walk. Give them the run they dream about.
